Zur Traube
A wine restaurant to love
If a stage designer were to have the task of creating ‘a typical wine tavern’, he would only have to copy Zur Traube in Hamburg’s Ottensen district. Karin Wege, the restaurant’s owner, offers around 40 open and over 250 bottle wines - together with an excellent dining menu.
The wine restaurant Zur Traube awaits you with oval-shaped tables made of dark wood, over 30 figures on the walls which represent the wine-making craft, and small two-person niches that are perfect for chatting while enjoying a glass of red. ‘Our speciality is German wine’, says owner Karin Wege. In line with that, her recommendation for a warm summer evening is ‘a rosé wine, for example Neumer, Rheinhessen, an organic wine with a gentle rosé colour, fruity flavour and a subtle note of strawberry’. It costs EUR 5.50 a glass (0.2l) or EUR 20 for the bottle.
Good wine also enjoys good food. If you appreciate tables set in white, the first floor at Zur Traube is where you’ll want to go. Here, you’ll feel like you’re in a cosy small-town tavern. Chef Gilles Niel serves, among others, the famous Masoor Lentil Salad with Lyon Sausage (EUR 9.80) and Entrecôte à la Moutarde with Potato Gratin and Market Vegetables (EUR 15.80).
In the summer, you can sit outside along the quiet side street, while listening to the birds twitter, not far from the Elbe River. It’s a wonderful ambience for a pleasant evening with wine and other delights.
Open daily from 6 pm, kitchen open till 11.30 pm.
